Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to: 

Session I: Patient-Centered Care

  1. Review evolving dynamics impacting the patient/provider relationship and discuss tactics for improving communication and establishing a culture of accountability that will strengthen operations.  
  2. Review techniques of dealing with difficult patients to improve clinical and patient satisfaction outcomes.
  3. Address negative and positive reviews with HIPAA-compliant responses, and utilize social media to market a urology practice.

Session II: Federal Law, Regulations & Advocacy

  1. Describe advocacy strategy principles and review a decade of urology’s work which leads to 2020 AUA federal and state legislative priorities.
  2. Review the previous and current legislative achievements of the AUA.  Discuss potential future urology advocacy issues.
  3. Discuss best practices when speaking to legislators and staff.

Session III: Financial Management

  1. Explore the processes of navigating through major contractual issues to include the wide swath of agreements from payer contracting to employment/professional services agreements to affiliation transactions such as private equity.
  2. Define RVUs, identify where to find current RVUs, and use RVUs to compare place of service activities in provision of urology services.
  3. Utilize the tools that all providers, office staff and billing staff need for a successful transition to outpatient E/M codes that are changing on January 1, 2021 and to comply with the updated code descriptors, documentation requirements and billing rules. 

Session IV: Strategy & Planning

  1. Discuss best practices and techniques to identify inefficiencies in the flow and operations of your urology practice.
  2. Debate the pros and cons of partnering with private equity.

Session V: Professional Development & Leadership

  1. Discuss the how and why behind burnout among the urologic community and explore solutions for prevention.
  2. Describe the different programs and strategies available to young urologists who want to get started in urology advocacy.
  3. Gain insights into why conflict arises, and develop solutions for how it can be managed and controlled in the urologic office.

Session VI: Best Practices in Operations

  1. Review what scribes can and cannot do in a practice setting, as well as discuss medical documentation best practices.
  2. Describe the latest in health care technology innovations and how it will apply to financial performance.
  3. Review the options and challenges for being reimbursed for telemedical services.
