Susanne Quallich, PhD
Susanne A. Quallich, PhD, ANP-BC, NP-C, CUNP, FAUNA, FAANP has been working as a nurse practitioner since 1996, has worked the Andrology Nurse Practitioner at University of Michigan since 2002. She is one of less than 200 Nurse Practitioners in the country with a specialty certification in Urology (CUNP). She has focused on raising awareness of men's sexual and reproductive health needs, and has been engaged in clinically-based research that quickly translates to improvements in their care. Her unique clinical focus in the areas of male sexual and reproductive health have made her a thought leader and expert among her peers in these areas, and she has published numerous of book chapters and journal articles on these topics. The Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners elected her as its Nurse Practitioner (NP) of the Year for 2005, and in 2008 and 2020 she was awarded the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates President’s Trophy for her contributions to urologic nursing. She was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners due to her work in both men’s health education, and promotion of the specialty NP role in Urology. She was promoted to Assistant Professor of Urology in 2018, the 1st NP to achieve this academic position in any department at University of Michigan. Her research interests include investigating the role of the NP in urology, and improving care of men with benign urology disease.
Dr. Quallich is Editor-in-Chief the peer-reviewed journal, Urologic Nursing, and a Past President for the Certification Board for Urologic Nurses and Associates. She is an active member in various professional societies, and was the 1st Nurse Practitioner elected into the Society for Male Reproduction in Urology, and 1st Nurse Practitioner elected into the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction. She was part of the SUNA taskforce guiding the creation of a core curriculum for urology nursing at all levels, and one of the authors. Dr. Quallich is presently creating a core curriculum and competencies for medical assistants in outpatient urology environments.
Dr. Quallich also led the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates taskforce that developed its Fellows (FAUNA) program, which was recognized in 2020.
Dr. Quallich edited the Manual of Men’s Health, and is co-editor of an evidence-based manual for NPs working in urology that was published in May 2016, with the 2nd edition released last quarter of 2020. She was appointed and reappointed to work with the American Urologic Association taskforce that developed a White Paper providing an overview of the current regulatory environment and guidance on how to integrate NPs and PAs into urology practices. She is presently part of the SUNA white paper taskforce that is reviewing best practices for suprapubic catheters.
Dr. Quallich serves as adjunct faculty and clinical preceptor for the University of Michigan School of Nursing, and precepts for the University of Michigan Health Science Scholars program.
