Dr. Tomas L. Griebling is the John P. Wolf 33 Masonic Distinguished Professor of Urology at the University of Kansas. He is Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Urology; Program Director of the Urology residency training; Faculty Associate in The Landon Center on Aging; ; and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Director of the Orr Academic Medical Society at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed medical school and his urology residency training at the University of Iowa. He subsequently remained at Iowa for a two-year fellowship in Geriatric and Reconstructive Urology, Urodynamics, and Outcomes Research. This work was funded by a Health Services Research Scholar Award from the American Foundation for Urologic Disease (AFUD) and the American Urological Association (AUA). He has extensive clinical and research experience in the field of geriatric urology, including work in the long-term care setting, and has published and presented extensively on the topic. Dr. Griebling earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of Kansas. His thesis research focused on predictors of urinary and fecal continence recovery after stroke. He is a specialist in the field of female urology, neuromodulation (Interstim) with one of the largest experiences in the country, along with interstial cystitis and care of urological issues of the aging/geriatric population.

Dr. Griebling currently serves on several national committees including the Education Committee of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS), the Public Media Committee and the Program Committee of the American Urological Association (AUA), and the Board of Directors of the South Central Section of the AUA (state of Kansas representative). He chaired the workgroup on development of the core curriculum in geriatric urology for urology residents for the AUA. He is Past-Chair of the Humanities and Arts Committee of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), Immediate Past-President of the Geriatric Urological Society of the AUA, and a Past-President of the Kansas City Urological Society.  He has also served as an elected member of the Expert Committee on Urology and Nephrology for the United States Pharmacopeia, and was the AUA representative of the National Quality Forum (NQF) Steering Committee on Nursing Homes and Assisted Care Facilities Measures.

He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Urology (Urological Survey Section); the International Journal of Urology and Nephrology; the Journal of Surgical Education; and the Journal of Aging, Humanities, and the Arts (JAHA). He is a peer reviewer for a number of other professional journals and is a long-time grant reviewer for the Alzheimer's Association. An active researcher, Dr. Griebling is the Principal Investigator for the Chief Resident Immersion Training (CRIT) program in Geriatrics and Educational Leadership at the University of Kansas. This national dissemination project is funded by a grant award from the American Geriatrics Society, the Association of Directors in Geriatrics Academic Programs (ADGAP), and the John A. Hartford Foundation. He is a Co-Principal Investigator on the University of Kansas Reynolds Program in Aging. Funded by a $4-million grant award from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation and the University of Kansas, this program is designed to develop and implement comprehensive geriatrics education across the undergraduate and post-graduate curriculum's and foster multidisciplinary professional faculty development in the field of geriatrics.

Dr. Griebling received the prestigious William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence from the University of Kansas for the 2002-03 academic year. In May 2009, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He has previously been selected as the AUA South Central Section participant in the AUA Leadership Development Program. He is also a past recipient of the Health Policy Leadership Scholarship from the American Urogynecological Society (AUGS) and the American College of Surgeons. As part of this award, he attended the Health Policy Leadership Program at the Heller School of Health Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons(FACS), the Gerontological Society of America (FGSA), and the American Geriatrics Society (AGSF). He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Urology, and is Certified in Public Health (CPH) by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.  He has been named to the listings of "America's Top Physicians and America's Top Urologists' consecutively since 2003, has been included in Kansas City's 'Top Doctors' listings consecutively since 2007, and has been recently been named to the listing of 'Best Doctors in America' (2011-12).  He is a Past-President of the Board of Directors for the Kansas City Good Samaritan Project and a past member of the Board of Directors of the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City. An avid musician, Dr. Griebling is a lifetime member of the National Flute Association (NFA).
