Kate Kraft, MD, FACS, FAAP

Dr. Kate H. Kraft is Associate Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Michigan and practices pediatric urology. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. She completed her urology residency at Emory University School of Medicine and fellowship in pediatric urology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Kraft’s clinical interests include minimally invasive urologic surgery and endourology in children, pediatric andrology, and disorders of sex development. She leads the endourology and robotic urologic surgery program at C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital as Director of Minimally Invasive Pediatric Urologic Surgery. Her primary research interests include pediatric kidney stone disease, pediatric uroradiology, cryptorchidism, and surgical education. She has published numerous peer reviewed journal articles in these areas and has earned the Clinical Research Prize Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Urology for her work in undescended testis histology.
Dr. Kraft is the Residency Program Director for the urology residency at the University of Michigan, consistently ranked among the top urology residency programs per Doximity. She is also co-PI for the American Urological Association (AUA)/Urology Care Foundation Physician Scientist Residency Training Award, for which the University of Michigan is the inaugural recipient. Her research in assessing readiness for practice in urology residency training is supported by the Society for Academic Urologists (SAU). Dr. Kraft is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the AAP. She is a member of multiple professional societies and is an active member of the ACS Women in Surgery Committee, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Review Committee for Urology, and the American Board of Urology Examination Committee. Dr. Kraft also represents the SAU on the ACS Board of Governors. She has been invited to participate in multiple leadership programs including the AUA Leadership Program. Dr. Kraft was recently recognized for her commitment to education as the 2021 recipient of the AUA Residents and Fellows Committee Teaching Award.
