Carl A. Olsson, MD, FACS, received undergraduate training at Bowdoin College and obtained an MD degree from Boston University School of Medicine in1963. His urology training was completed at Boston University and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. After graduating from his residency, he became Chief of Urology at the Boston VA Medical Center, followed quickly by appointments as Director of the Urology Department of Boston City Hospital and Urologist-in-Chief at the University Hospital in Boston. After 8 years as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at Boston University, he moved to New York, acquiring the titles of John K. Lattimer Professor and Chairman, Department of Urology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and Chief of Squier Urological Clinic of the Presbyterian Hospital in NewYork City. Dr. Olsson has received numerous awards including Citations from the US Department of State, Republic of Vietnam and the American Medical Association for service in Project Vietnam, First Prize in the Grayson Carroll AUA Essay Contest on 3 occasions, numerous CapCURE Research Awards, the Gold Cystoscope Award, the John K. Lattimer, Distinguished Contribution and Hugh Hampton Young Awards (given by the American Urological Association), a Certificate of Appreciation (from the American Board of Urology), a Special Presidential Award (from the American Foundation for Urological Diseases), the Michael E. Debakey Award (from Baylor College of Medicine), the John K. Lattimer Award (from the National Kidney Foundation), the Ferdinand C. Valentine Award (from the NY Academy of Medicine), the Russel Lavengood Award (from the New York Section of the AUA), the SBUR Service Award (from the Society of Basic Urology Research), a Lifetime Achievement Award (from the Vatttikuti Urological Foundation), a Presidential Merit Award (from President Leonel Hernandez of the Dominican Republic), an honorary degree from Bowdoin College and Distinguished Alumnus Awards from Boston University (main campus) as well as Boston University School of Medicine. He is an Honorary Member of various groups, including the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the AUA, the Southeast Section of the AUA and the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is an invited member of the American Surgical Association, the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, the Society of Pelvic Surgeons and the Clinical Society of Genitourinary Surgeons. He is past President of the Society of University Urologists, the American Board of Urology, the Society of Urological Oncology, the Intersociety Council, the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, the Clinical Society of Genitourinary Surgeons, and the New York Section of the AUA. He is past Secretary of the American Urological Association, the American Foundation of Urological Diseases and American Urological Association Foundation and past Chairman of the Prostate Cancer Integration Panel of the Department of Defense. He has authored over 400 publications and is presently Chief Medical Officer of Integrated Medical Professionals, maintaining the John K Lattimer Professor of Urology, emeritus title at Columbia University, along with new positions as Editor of Urology Practice and Director of Quality Initiatives and Strategy in the Department of Urology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
